With gorgeous weather, the 84 guests enjoyed visiting inside and out on the patio at O’Malleys on Thursday, July 11. Log on and click on photo gallery to see the pictures.

Thank you to our sponsors: ACS,  Advancial, AOGA,  ConocoPhillips Alaska and  PRA for making this annual networking event possible. Advancial and PRA shared some information at the event, and Katie Nitzberg Parmelee drew names for three door prizes donated by Advancial.

Mary Endacott shares that she is a snowbird, spending time between Clam Gulch, AK and Houston TX.  “Our son will be a Senior at TX A&M studying aerospace engineering,” said Mary. We had a number of out of town guests including Tina and Gerry Suellentrop who live in Bend, Oregon, and visit Anchorage frequently to visit friends and enjoy their home on Big Lake. Thanks to Stormy Weiss, Janet and Troy Weiss’ son, we had some out of town friends who were there to celebrate Stormy’s wedding including Katie and Blake Samuels who live in Houston and Kim and Scott Smith from Calgary, Canada.

It was great to include regulars Harold Heinz and Randy Ruedrich, as well as Scott Digert, Frank and Anca Paskvan, Bruce and Susan Dingeman, Kathy Gray, Susie Holly and GayNel Cardwell.

Just as exciting were individuals who attended for the first time, including Mary Endacott. “There were lots of familiar faces I enjoyed seeing again,” said Mary. “Bob Laule, Abhijeet Tambe, Paul and Beverly Chan, Joe Lastufka, Roger Sells, Doug Von Tish, Jon Konkler, Tom Plawman, Harry Engel, Chantal Walsh, Nancy Joseph, Joan Kulish, and Chip Alvord.  I was excited to see Veronica Reem, Lorrie Jordheim and Jennifer Melvin again and reconnect with them.  The best connection was with Becky Stoabs because we chatted outside in the sun for awhile before realizing that our husband’s knew each other from a long time ago!!

Harry Engel was also attending his first Energy Alumni happy hour. “I was with ARCO, BP after the merger and then I retired,” said Harry. I heard about the happy hour from some colleagues. It was a nice event, and really well organized. There were drink tickets and food and I was able to catch up with friends I had not seen in a while.”

Pam Pope has completed the El Camino twice. Pam is pictured below with Tom Walsh (PRA) on top of Mt Marathon in Seward on July 4. “Known as the hardest 5K in North America, Tom has managed the top of the race and timing for 26 years,” said Pam. “We both have to hike all the way up and down ourselves, me with first aid equipment.  I’ve been doing it for 10 years. This October I will be doing some temple treks in South Japan, the Komanu Kodu, and Shikoku.”

At the happy hour, Pam asked for suggestions on ways former co-workers can get together to contribute to the community including United Way Day of Caring, Polar Bear Plunge charity activity and spring clean-up. Susie Hollie shares how BP employees used to form teams and go out and clean up. We will share more information on opportunities to connect and contribute.

In other Anchorage alumni news, Carol Carlton lives in Manchester, Iowa during the summer months and Anthem, Arizona during the winter. Carol retired from COP AK in February 2019.
