After 14 years as CEO of ConocoPhillips, Ryan Lance stepped down from the role effective September 1, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition for the company.
Lance led ConocoPhillips since 2012, when the company separated from Phillips 66 and emerged as an independent exploration and production company. Following his retirement as President and CEO, he will remain with the company in a transitional role as Executive Chair of the Board.
Andy O’Brien, currently Executive Vice President of Strategy, Commercial and Chief Financial Officer, will succeed Lance as President and CEO. O’Brien has been with the company since 1997, beginning his career as a financial analyst in England before holding a variety of leadership positions in Scotland, Canada and the United States.
As part of the transition, Konnie Haynes-Welsh, currently Vice President, Finance and Controller, will become Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
The leadership change comes as ConocoPhillips continues to rank among the world’s largest independent oil and gas producers.
